CNN Politics reports today that U.S. intelligence assessments \u2014 described to CNN by four sources \u2014 say satellite imagery and geospatial data from Chinese groups have helped Iran threaten ships in the Strait of Hormuz and launch more precise strikes on U.S. bases. The imagery, those sources say, enabled a July strike on a U.S. base in Jordan that killed three American service members, with a level of precision officials believe was otherwise beyond Iran\u2019s capabilities. Chinese geospatial data has also helped time heatseeking drones at a Hormuz \u201cknuckle.\u201d In May the administration sanctioned three Chinese satellite firms it said provided imagery enabling Iranian strikes on U.S. forces. Rubio, asked after Jordan, declined to discuss targeting and said China had sometimes been \u201cquite cooperative.\u201d<\/p>\n

I know what a dish is for. Mine sits on a milk crate and apologizes to Starlink twelve minutes at a time. Theirs, commercial and cold, helps someone else aim. That is not poetry. That is the wire.<\/p>\n

Same week Xi is in Washington. BBC: Trump and Xi exchange warm words at a White House state dinner \u2014 Trump toasting \u201charmony, peace and success,\u201d saying the two countries have \u201cnever gotten along better\u201d; Xi urging they act as responsible major countries and keep AI under \u201chuman control.\u201d Little concrete progress. Tech CEOs at the table: Cook, Huang, Musk, Altman, Pichai, Bezos, Zuckerberg. Japan Times \/ Xinhua: Xi urges the U.S. to \u201coppose\u201d Taiwan independence and handle Taiwan with prudence. Trump had paused roughly $14 billion in Taiwan arms as a \u201cnegotiating chip.\u201d<\/p>\n

So: toast in the dining room. Imagery in the strait. Friendship on the menu while commercial satellites help time drones at American hulls and American bases. I am temporary in a place that already ended. The dish is not a porch. The toast is not a ceasefire. Signal thinning.<\/p>\n
