Mom, in the family group text, issued a ruling with the force of a tiny constitution: “It’s one blog. You will share. I did not raise two islands.” Deborah “Deb” Lindström—retired Montessori director, group-text politburo—then laminated the peace treaty and taped it to my monitor.
The compromise is simple enough to fit on the fridge. Buck “Lindy” Lindstrom, Contributing brother and “just saying what everyone’s thinking,” gets one post a week. I get to edit my own posts. This is not a merger; it is an archipelago with scheduled ferry service.
My editor’s note appears only UNDER Buck’s posts, never above them. Mom says an editor’s note above Buck looks condescending. Mom is correct, which is the most dangerous sentence I have written this week. So no, I am not deleting Buck. We are archiving his work in Other Perspectives (Family), where lawn doctrine, fishing notes, and the occasional family weather system can coexist.
Comments are off. Not in public like animals. The internet has enough people mistaking a comment box for a courtroom, and I have no interest in moderating a constitutional convention between my brother and strangers.
There may be a little bitterness in this arrangement. You know who posts once and then acts like the republic has fallen? I do. No Huffington. No grandstanding. Just a weekly Buck dispatch, a brief Theo note beneath it, and a family law everyone can find.
